Base Closings and Nuclear Waste
This one isn't a commentary, it's merely a word of caution. Apparently (and I haven't read it, I'm just repeating what has been reported), there is a small clause hidden in the base closing documents currently being discussed which would allow the U.S. to use those military bases it plans on closing to store nuclear waste.
I understand that we need to find places to store this stuff, but it seems to me a double whammy to an area, to both take away it's military base (when so many of the towns in question have said they rely on their base for their prosperity), and then turn around and impose a nuclear waste dump on those same towns.
Clearly a political one-two punch.
Liam.
