More ACLU
I finally got through to Drudge, and the link he points to is at the NY Times.
As yet, there is no information at all about what is being shredded, and it certainly doesn't sound as though there's a concerted shredding effort going on. This whole bruhaha appears to be over concerns that some executives have shredders in their offices, instead of following the documented shredding procedure, to keep track of what has been shredded. It appears as though the shredding was in response to security lapses in 2002 whereby confidential information was stolen. The shredded documents apparently were things containing social security numbers and other sensitive information.
Then again, it is in the nature of shredding that we can't really KNOW what was shredded.
It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out, but so far I don't get the sense that this is anything to worry about. Unlike other cases of shredding (Enron / Anderson Consulting comes to mind), there's no indication that the documents being shredded relate to any activity under investigation.
But as I say, I'll keep my ear out, and if I hear more, I'll let you know.
Liam.

Becky,
The e-mail from this blog goes into my account, but I've forwarded your message on to Janet. She's rather busy at the moment for a number of reasons, but she should get back with you eventually (if she hasn't already).
Liam.
