Personally Depressing...

No matter how good my writing gets, someone over at Huffington Post will write what I'm trying to write much better than I ever could. Here is the latest example.

I suppose I shouldn't be comparing myself to professional writers, inasmuch as my profession is one of which the grasp of the English language is generally considered a necessary casualty.

It astounds me the number of my fellow programmers who couldn't conjugate a verb if it was the challenge on a reality show that would earn them $10 million.

But still, every once in a while, it'd be nice to read someone over there who shares my opinions who DOESN'T kick my literary ass.

Liam.

Liam,

We've missed you a cpaptalk. I haven't posted much but I do pop in to see what's up.

I do so enjoy your writing. My boyfriend is a writer and goes through the same doubts concerning his abilities. You both have a wonderful grasp of the language and such a beautiful gift of drawing your readers in and keeping their attention.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers as you prepare for the arrival of the newest member of the Johnson clan.

Thanks, Jeanne, I appreciate the kind words!

I stopped visiting cpaptalk as much because I felt I had less and less to say. I don't mind being the center of attention and inserting myself into conversations when I'm actively a part of the community, but when I stopped using my CPAP machine, even though people assured me that I was still welcome, I just feel weird giving advice to people when I couldn't follow it myself.

And to become just the class clown who never has anything but jokes to throw out just felt distracting from the real problems apnea sufferers have.

I enjoyed my time there, and every so often I check back. But unless I decide at some future time to try CPAP again, I don't think I'll likely ever be a participant at the level I previously was.

You are, however, most welcome to hang around and continue reading my blog as long as you like!

Liam,
Can I just write a suggestion to you that is in response to what you posted elsewhere? I am not sure how this works.

I was reading the comments on The Huffington Post, and noted that you said this (I assume intended for John Powell who had derided Kristen):
"To even PRETEND that you think only one side does this proves that you have your head so far up your partisan ass that you can no longer tell truth from fiction."

I assume that was intended for John Powell, (powellj011@hawaii.rr.com) not Kristen but as it is written it is confusing and seems like you are speaking to Kristen. You might send her a note and let her know you were not referring to her.

Since I actually QUOTED John Powell in my response, I hoped that was clear, but in case it was not, I have posted a correction on the comments to the article.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Jeanne,

Just yesterday I was having a meeting with the Executive Director of the American Sleep Apnea Association who has sometimes checked into cpaptalk. While chatting, Ed said, "Where has Liam been?" I chuckled, for that showed me that even now, while long gone from cpaptalk, Liam continues to be remembered for his wit. (I said "wit," Liam, not "twit") Liam leaves an impression wherever he goes. Hahaha.

But I'm just glad he's here doing his thing, which is writing good stuff. It's the mark of a good writer who respects other good writers. There's something very human in the way Liam writes. Whether or not you agree with his opinions, you come away feeling kinda glad he's reading the headlines and looking after us all.

... unless you're Ralph or other Bush supporters, in which case you think I'm a complete nut-job, taken in by the Democrat talking points.

But I'm glad to have some fans in amongst the detractors!

Oh, and as to leaving an impression, I've sadly gained about 30 lbs since getting married in November. I'm leaving much more of an impression than ever before. :-)
