Approval Watch

For those who haven't heard, the latest approval poll numbers for Bush are 36% approval, 58% disapproval. These are from the American Research Group, released yesterday.

On the economy, 33% approval, 62% disapproval.

For reference, this is in the same range as Nixon's approval rating during the middle of the Watergate scandal.

I found a few more numbers today which really put the 36% number in perspective.

The first is that 36% is 3 points LOWER than Nixon's at the time of his impeachment.

And the second, for those who insist that the American public hated President Clinton, is that on the day of his impeachment, his approval rating was 72%. TWICE as many people liked Clinton on arguably the worst day of his Presidency than like W today. (By the time he'd left office, he'd slipped to 66%, a mere 30 percentage points higher.)
