World War III
According to President Bush, the fighting back by the passengers on Flight 93 was "the first counter-attack to World War III" according to this article in an Australian newspaper.
Obviously, I don't know the reliability of the source, not being Australian. But it is worth considering whether our President honestly believes he is leading us into World War III.

Yeah, I've heard the same theory before, and I have to say it sounds credible. (Which doesn't necessarily make it true, but I'm certainly not willing to rule it out at this point).
However, people are already starting to use terms like "Lame Duck" with regard to this Administration, and Congress seems to be growing at least a rudimentary spine, so I am cautiously hopeful that he'll be prevented from the more insane aspects of his agenda.
(I hope my optimism is not misplaced.)

I agree. I'm not sure why I'm so optimistic at this point, except that the poll numbers show that the population at large is starting to get that this Administration isn't the epitome of morality they try to claim, and isn't really doing anything that benefits anyone except the uber-rich.
Of course, we still have to potentially deal with stolen elections thanks to Diebold and others. And we still have around $30k in debt for each man, woman and child in this country to pay off. And we still have at least one disastrous war to clean up after.
We still have a lot of work to do before we're in the clear. But I've gotten so very tired of being scared all the time that I have to take the abysmal poll numbers as a sign of hope, or else I'd give up and go hide in a corner until the end times come.
Either way, though, thanks for stopping by and offering your opinions! If you have more, you're always welcome to share.

Leading us into WWIII or being the one to start it?
GWB, in my opinion, has few compunctions about armed conflict, especially if they further his apocolyptic religious leanings.
And lame duck or not, he can still create plenty of damage to this planet and the people on it.

He has plenty of compunctions about armed conflict, when he has to be in it. But I agree, now that he sits back and merely pulls the strings, he's capable of just about anything.
I really wonder if we're in the end times for the United States. Societies rise and fall, and ours has certainly been damaged, and so completely that many of the citizens welcome the changes and think they are GOOD things.
I'm trying to put a good face on it not because I believe it, but because right now I'm having an extended depressive episode and if I thought too carefully about what's really going on in this country, I'm afraid it would push me a step too far.
However, it's good to have you stop by again, Ken. It's coincidental, because I checked out the new Common Sense for the first time in weeks this morning.
Great good luck in your Congressional race. I understand why you had to cut your hair, but it's surprising how different it makes you look.

Thanks, and I didn't cut my hair. At least not in that photograph.
I did recently get a cut though (10 inches), as I do every 18 months. I donate the hair to Locks of Love.
It is now again about the same length as my picture on Common Sense.

Great cause! My (step) daughter did that as well a few months back.
So, out of curiosity, what do you think of your chances in your Congressional race? That is to say, is the competition tough (making it harder on an independent) or are you in one of those areas that's just begging for a change?
I wish you luck. My impression (based on your blog) is that you'd be a darn sight better than most of what we have in Washington. And even if I'm completely wrong about you, you'd have quite an effort ahead of you before you could be WORSE.

Thanks, and I don't think you're wrong.
The biggest battle is collecting 9500 valid signatures by Aug. 11th to make the ballot. After that, it's anyones guess.

I can't help you there, inasmuch as you're running in a California district and I'm located in New Hampshire.
What's in your district? I know some people in a few areas of CA, I might be able to point a few people in your direction if it's the right area.
I wish I could run, but I'm quite certain there are too many skeletons in my closet (most notably my depression) that would come out and end up disqualifying me in the court of public opinion.
